Tyne and Wear and County Durham
BBW Dating Newcastle: Geordie Warmth, Real Romance
The North East, where women members slightly outnumber the men.
Good News for Admirers in the North East
Across Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North and South Tyneside and County Durham, women make up just over half of our members. That makes the North East one of only three areas we cover where women outnumber men on the site, which is welcome news if you are a man who loves fuller figures and lives north of the Tees.
For women, it means plenty of men looking for you, in a crowd that is solidly grown-up: most members are 45 or older, with a big group in their late forties and early fifties.

From the Quayside to the Coast
Newcastle's Quayside is a natural first-date spot: a flat riverside walk under the bridges, with the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art across the Millennium Bridge in Gateshead. The Baltic is free, and its upper floors have some of the best views of the Tyne. Grey Street and the streets around Grey's Monument have handsome old cafés and bars for a drink afterwards.
If you would rather be by the sea, take the Metro to Tynemouth. Longsands beach and the village's cafés are lovely in any season, and at weekends there is a market inside the Victorian station. Further down the coast, Seaburn and Roker in Sunderland have a long, level promenade.
A First Date in Durham, Step by Step
- Meet in the Market Place, which is central and easy to find.
- Walk down to the riverbanks of the Wear, where the paths are gentler than the hill up to the cathedral.
- If you both fancy it, take the short climb to Palace Green for the view of the cathedral and castle together.
- Finish with tea in one of the small cafés on Saddler Street or Elvet Bridge, and let the conversation run.
The North East Across the Year
Summer on the coast is the North East at its best: a walk along the sands at Tynemouth or Whitley Bay, fish and chips, and long, light evenings. In autumn, Saltwell Park in Gateshead is lovely, with a boating lake and a café in the old towers. Winter brings the Christmas market to Grey's Monument and warm, welcoming pubs everywhere. Sunderland's Winter Gardens, a glass-domed garden beside the museum in Mowbray Park, is warm all year and free to visit, which makes it a reliable rainy-day date.
