The Garden of England
The area we cover with the highest share of women members.
Kent stands out. Of all the areas we cover, it has the highest share of women: about six in ten of our Kent members are women, many of them in their forties, fifties and sixties. If you are a man who loves curvy women and you live anywhere between Dartford and Dover, this is good news.
Members are spread across the county, from the Medway towns to the Thanet coast and the Weald. It is a county of good connections too: the high-speed trains put much of Kent within an hour of London, and the coast is never far away.
Shares of our members in Kent, from our member records.
Almost half of Kent members are 55 or over and very few are under 35, so this is a county for grown-up romance.
The Kent coast
Kent's seaside towns are made for an easy afternoon together.
The harbour, fish and seafood on the quay, and a gentle walk along the shingle to the beach huts.
Turner Contemporary is free and right on the seafront, with the Old Town's cafés just behind it.
A small sandy bay, an old-fashioned ice cream parlour and benches along the clifftop promenade.
Canterbury is a lovely first-date city: walk through the cathedral precincts, then follow the river through the Westgate Gardens, which are flat and full of benches. A punt on the Stour is a gentle way to see the city if you are both in the mood. Rochester, with its castle, cathedral and Dickensian high street, is equally good and handy for Medway members.
In the west of the county, the Pantiles in Royal Tunbridge Wells is a colonnaded Georgian walkway lined with cafés and restaurants, made for a slow, elegant afternoon. And yes, Kent has its own Leeds Castle, near Maidstone, which confuses everyone from Yorkshire. Its parkland makes a beautiful day out.
Wherever you go, meet in public and make your own way there. Our safety page and guide for admirers are worth a look first.
Spring in the Garden of England means blossom in the orchards and garden visits; Sissinghurst and Scotney Castle are both beautiful in May. Summer is for the coast, from Deal's pier to the beach huts at Herne Bay. Autumn brings apple and hop festivals in the villages, and in winter Canterbury's Christmas market and cosy pubs come into their own. Faversham, an old market town with a brewing history, is lovely at any time of year for a short wander and a pub lunch.
