Mansfield, Newark and the County Towns
Not everyone in Nottinghamshire lives in the city. Newark has a handsome cobbled market square and a castle by the Trent, with riverside benches and tea rooms. Southwell is a tiny cathedral town with a Minster that stops visitors in their tracks, and Sherwood Forest near Edwinstowe has level paths out to the Major Oak from the visitor centre. Mansfield and Chesterfield both have busy market days, and Chesterfield's crooked spire gives you something to talk about straight away.
